Jürgen Schneider

I was born on 16.1.1961, and I am a father of Sebastian (1995), Anna (2001) and Marie (1996). I developed the Idea and I run the camp.

I worked in sales for many years, lived abroad for 4 years (USA, Mexico, Brazil, France) and speak 4 foreign languages (English, French, Spanish, & Portuguese). I studied business administration for 6 semesters, but the thesis and the final exams eluded me.

Barbara and I started a family and we had three children. Although we live separately, we still manage to continue to be good parents to our children.

In 2003 both my body and my mind let me know that it was time for a change.

Apart from my passion for cooking, which has been an important part of my life for decades, I am a certified nature guide, herb specialist, vision quest instructor and Sociology student at university.

I was a founding member and chairman of the “Verein Grenzenlos Kochen” (transl. “unlimited cooking association”) in St. Andrä Wörden in Austria. We were awarded, among other prizes, with the Dr. Erwin Pröll Future Prize in 2006.

Today I live with my partner Ursula Sova in Zeiselmauer in Lower Austria. We work very well together, particularly in managing projects.

With the ROOTS Camp, I have created a place without electricity and digital media. In addition to this, we offer nomadic hikes and smartphone-free school project weeks.

I do all this because I feel that I would really like to do something meaningful with my life.

The values that determine what I do are respect, Solidarity and elf-Responsibility.

My greatest objective in life is to be the man that I really am – to merge my existence with my being into one harmonious whole.

Declaration by Jürgen

I, Jürgen Schneider, would like to make one thing clear here: “I also live in this mobile phone world, surf the net, watch soaps and eat non-organic hamburgers. My favourite series is “House of Cards” and I read the newspaper online every day.

My partner sometimes has to drag me away from my computer and I drive the car a lot. I don’t go barefoot all year round. After all, I don’t live in a yurt and I am a committed “warm showerer” (what else?) I am not tougher, more ascetic or more enlightened than anyone else.

Even the ROOTS Camp is advertised on the Internet and can be booked online – I believe that we can’t turn back time in any case and that this modern life is our life.

The question I ask myself and you is simply: “Am I a user or am I a slave? Do I have choices and have I ever thought about it?”

Thoughtfully yours…
